Karen was a delight to work with. She was a great listener and was able to tune- in easily to our vision for our “dream room” and help us realize it – within budget! She offered us many inspired ideas and thoughtful suggestions, and could flexibly change course and come up with new ideas if the need arose. She identified great resources and vendors for us, and was meticulous about following along with us throughout the process, making sure that everything was going according to plan. She is also a person of great warmth and integrity and was a joy to work with!
We purchased a condo in Taos last year to be used as a vacation rental. Karen came highly recommended from friends in Santa Fe. She immediately grasped our challenging agenda : southwestern design, durable and forgiving furniture that could hold up to lots of guests, shopping locally (we hate paying for shipping!), using a few items we currently owned, plus a conservative budget. Karen’s enthusiasm and resourcefulness were contagious…..we loved receiving her texts and emails showing us antique tin candlesticks she wanted to make into lamps, the perfect antique kilim for the living room, and an exquisite vintage carved dresser for the master bedroom she bought for a song. She even found a way to have all the bedding custom-made for almost the same price as retail. We love our Taos home and the rave reviews we receive from guests.
Ms. Karen Lievense is a talented interior designer. She has a great ability to envision the final product and to guide her clients through the process. We have worked with Karen on several projects. She is well organized, responsive, and detail oriented. She is highly experienced and creative, and on several occasions made suggestions that dramatically improved the final product. We continue to hire Karen for current projects and recommend her to friends.
I re-located to Santa Fe two years ago, and felt overwhelmed with the huge truck-load of boxes and furnishings that arrived at the curb one day. A friend of mine recommended Karen. At our first meeting, she was able to quickly and efficiently propose a plan of action and an estimate for her services. She followed up two days later with a project chronology, which included floor plans indicating furniture placement and a lighting plan, plus optimal storage systems. We spent half a day going through boxes of books, art, accessories and dishes. Karen took at least a third away to a consignment store for me, and donated the rest.She suggested re-painting the two bedrooms, and arranged for this as well. Within 3 weeks, I was peacefully settled into my beautiful, well-organized new home. And Karen also made the process fun! As a fifty-something woman, I know that my sanity is priceless. Karen’s support was one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
I interviewed many designers when I decided to remodel my kitchen. Most wanted to expand the project to something that was beyond my scope and budget. Karen really listened to what I wanted to do. She was attuned to my existing style and understood what I was trying to achieve. By opening up a couple of doorways and adding a skylight, light and airiness were brought into the kitchen that was sorely needed. She worked with me to incorporate existing furniture and art items that were of great significance to me. In the end, she achieved a space that is sleek and functional and compliments the rest of my home.
