Vacation & Short-Term Rental Design

This family from Texas wanted to put down some roots in the cooler mountain town of Angel Fire, New Mexico. The home they purchased was very casually furnished by the previous owners, and while they had tried to list it on Airbnb as it was, they realized that investing in quality upgrades would pay off. I used much of what was already there, but encouraged the owners to purchase all new higher quality bedding, plus rugs, lighting, furniture and much new artwork throughout. We sourced these new furnishings pretty quickly, both locally and on line. I wanted to give this family something that felt authentic to them and their needs, but also inviting and durable enough for their short-term renters. They soon became Super Hosts. This condo is another second home and short-term vacation rental in Taos, between the ski valley and downtown. Working with a rather tight budget, I sourced a mix of furnishings that were new, consignment finds, and custom. Some of the lamps were custom-made from antique tin candlesticks and pottery, including a lovely hand-covered lamp shade for the guest bedroom. The duvet covers and living room pillows were also custom-made from simple hand-blocked cottons from India, while the comfy living room sectional was found at a consignment shop. Local folk art, purchased directly from the artists, makes staying in this home a uniquely Taos experience. Please click here for more images.

Karen worked magic with our tight budget to create a warm part-time family home for us, and a peaceful retreat for our short-term rental guests. She also supported us in making sure that the home functioned beautifully, with all the luxe amenities imaginable. We ALL enjoy the combination of antiques, local folk-art, consignment treasures and custom details.
